hi! aishoni @ aina des.. *1st time posting here...am nervous ^^;;*
i've done some searching for the meaning of the boys name at wiktionary
i'm just wondering if it's accurate or not, or maybe there's other kanji used to represent their names
my favourite is Ohno Satoshi = vast field of knowledge, but phoneticly sounds pleasing is Ninomiya Kazunari
what do you gals/guys(is there any?) think about how the meaning of their names represent their personality?

-葉 = "ha", but is pronounced as "ba"
-雅 = "miyabiyaka/tsune" but its "masa" here
-大 = "ookii / ooini" but it just "oo" here
-智 = "chi" instead of "satoshi"

Date: 2006-08-08 09:19 am (UTC)though i think because Chinese characters are more complex when you look at it
so maybe that's why i find Hiragana and Katakana easier ^^'
[and personally i think Nihonggo's easier to study compared with Mandarin and Hangul ^^')

Date: 2006-08-08 09:23 am (UTC)and I'm Vietnamese, so my understanding of the kanji is VN-based, since our language also has kanji
I always separate the surname and the first name when looking up for meanings, so here is some of my view points about the names
- Aiba: 相 can be 'help', 'together', 'appeareance/posture' or 'choosing carefully'. However, 葉 is mostly understood as 'leaf', and in VN we have a phrase like 'good leaves cover broken leaves', which means that people have to help people who are poorer than them. And that's how I see 'Aiba', and he himself is also someone who helps others a lot.
- Masaki: 雅 is elegance and grateful. We use that kanji a lot in words that describe poem/verse/music/literature which are elegant, like 雅楽 is the type of traditional music played in the palace. 紀 means 'era/period' or 'discipline'. Therefore I understand 'Masaki' as 'grateful/elegant mannered'.
- Matsumoto: 松 is pine tree, 本 is 'root/origin' or 'self'. 'Matsumoto' is the 'root of the pine tree'. A pine tree lasts for a very long period of time and isn't easy to fallover, and Jun himself is also a strong person who is not easy to be defeated.
- Jun: 潤 is 'moist/watered', 'to be enriched/benefit'. Combined with his surname, I can picture a strong pine tree which continues to be watered everyday, keep on growing up and mature, and yet becomes benefit to
Johnnyeveryone, such as his fans and the whole society.- Ninomiya: 二 is two, 宮 is palace/shinto shrine. Ninomiya is simply 'two palaces', somehow I can picture the images of 'deep thinking' and 'meaningful', just like the way Nino thinks
- Kazunari: 和 is 'peace' and 'harmonize', 也 is 'sum of money' or a particle in the sentence like 'too/also/so' <-- difficult to explain... I wonder if 'sum of money' has anything to do with his money saving XD, and Nino is quite a peaceful person, especially when he was young and didn' like to socialize with others, even when he got bullied by others he didn't really fight back, but at the same time he's quite easy to get along with.
- Ohno: 大 is big, 野 is 'field/rural area'. Ohno is 'big field'.
- Satoshi: 智 is 'wisdom/intellect/reason'. Same as you said, Ohno Satoshi is 'big field of knowledge'. Somehow I think this name is more suitable for Sho's personalities, but Ohno also has wide knowledge, in an artistic way
- Sakurai: 櫻 is cherry blossom, 井 is a well. Sakurai is a scenery of a sakura tree besides a well, nice isn't it? Also sakura represents spring, and a well is deep. Sho also has a warm personality and deep thinking. My brother often add a pun on this name, since 櫻 in Vietnamese is pronounced 'dao', and that words in Vietnamese also means ' to dig up', so my brother often jokes that 'Sakurai' means 'well digging' XD
- Shou: 翔 means 'to soar/fly' or 'detailed/careful'. Sho is a person who always aim for the better, he never satisfy with his current self and reaching for more (yeah he is not satisfy with only one bachelor degree and wants a Master degree =o=)
end of my analysis, sorry for spamming the comment page ._.

Date: 2006-08-08 10:00 am (UTC)maybe its "big wilderness of knowledge" as in, he really is a smart man underneath that blurryness, he just hasn't tapped yet to his full potential...
hmmm...
no subject
Date: 2006-08-08 10:11 am (UTC)however, the 野 when means 'wilderness' usually goes with negative meanings, like 野蛮 (savage/uncivilized)
therefore 野 is more used as 'field'
we can understand it as his potential is hidden somewhere inside the big field, and he's on his way to discover all of it <-- yeah, ARASHI DISCOVERY is hosted by him XD
this is interesting, thank you for open this topic so that I have an excuse to type these up XD <-- looked into it since a long time already but never write it down ^^;

Date: 2006-08-08 10:36 am (UTC)base on my own experience, people born in November are weird people (like me)
and guys born in October are hot XD, and guys born in June = smart, dorky and mathematician
well, it doesn't apply to everyone though XD
yeah I'd love to learn Jap too, I registered for classes a few times but never had time to attend =_= all my Jap knowledge is from TV...
back to the topic
I remember when I was looking up for Jun's name, it says that 潤 when pronounced as 'Jun', is a girl's name XD, guys usually have that kanji pronounced as Atsushi, Shigeru, Hikaru, Hiroshi or Masaru
I thought it was quite amusing ^^
and I also think that Ninomiya Kazunari sounds the best ^^ <-- no I'm not being biased XD
no subject
Date: 2006-08-08 10:51 am (UTC)that explains a lot! XDDDD
Ninomiya Kazunari sounds sooo yasashii.. <-- not being biased also :P
but i do think 也 is 'sum of money' XD
but if its 'too/also', then Kazunari = peacefull too (??.. taking it too literary :P)
i believe he is peaceful despite the fact that he's obviously moody person. he does strive for harmony & dislike chaos *am analyzing too much ^^''*

of course, just look at this XD
Kazu-chan's name is probably most difficult to explain...
if take away that 'money' thing XD, I see it this way,
"even though Nino appears as a naughty dorky boy, he has his peaceful side too"
"even though Nino was unsocialize, he can also harmonize/mix with others easily too"
I don't know which meanings Nino's parents want, but seems like all the possible meanings for those kanji suit him ^^;
especially the money thingno subject
