Excellent movie, good story, great characters, acceptable English dub-over. With the exception of a few people taking pictures and video (naughty, naughty!), the fans were AMAZING! No one asked about Arashi coming to America, no one fainted or died or tried to make off with Nino, and everyone was so kind and respectable. THIS is how we show that fans in the US are amazing!
Keep it up for GANTZ 2 and any other movies with our boys!

Date: 2011-01-21 07:48 am (UTC)My theater's showing got canceled, due to the stupid video not playing. We got the taped showing. So only the first 30 minutes of ads, then it stopped. The theater tried everything, but couldn't get it to work. They called the company's hosting the movies and got nothing, but "we can't do anything." I've emailed them asking them to help the theater get another showing of the movie. I'm sure I'll get blown off, but this whole thing has put the theater back in great standings with me. They really did try.
BTW the best thing was two older (about 40) business men (yes of Japanese race) were in my row, and were talking about Nino and their daughters being pissed that they went to see the movie without them.

Date: 2011-01-21 07:57 am (UTC)I thought it was great that the majority of the crowd were Arashi fans with uchiwas and lightsticks, but then the movie had a lot of gore, blood, guts and death; it was funny to see the reaction of some fans who didn't really expect such a film but everyone seemed to enjoy it very much, especially since nino's acting was superb as always.
and yes, his english is getting better and better!!

Date: 2011-01-21 08:39 am (UTC)and i second the motion that matsuyama's interpreter needs a gold star....you can totally tell nino had interpreters before because he would pause and allow translation...

Date: 2011-01-21 02:27 pm (UTC)Nice to know that the audience in LA was so well-behaved though, the people in my theater kept shouting and laughing really loudly when Nino and Matsuyama were speaking. I tried really hard not to get angry at them and shout at them to make them shut up so that I can listen to the Japanese. You'd think that in such a big city people will have courtesy and understand there are people who can/want to listen to the Japanese instead of the interpreter guys, who frankly took some liberties with the translation. But kudos to them though, it sure isn't an easy job, especially if you're Matsuyama's interpreter. Poor guy...
I loved how Nino said that he wants to try and get GANTZ2 not dubbed, though I noticed that the MC guy from OtakuUSA didn't look so happy when Nino made that comment. Anyone else noticed that, or was it just my imagination? Though after that Nino did also say that watching it the way it was shown was a whole new experience and whatnot, which sounded to me as if he said it to placate the people on the American side of the release.
...Or maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

Date: 2011-01-21 04:52 pm (UTC)They basically made Yuriko Yoshitaka's character sound like some creepy stalker otaku, rather than the cute, shy, and admirer-from-afar character that she was supposed to be (and the dubber's voice also suddenly changed from one scene to another). But I do have to blame the movie slightly for rushing their relationship way too much, which added to the stalker vibe.
I'm sorry to babble, but it just bothered me so much that the dubbers really didn't try very hard. It was very amateur work in my opinion.
