Additional cast announced for Ohoku

Today they announced some more of the actors who will be appearing in Ohoku with Nino. I thought some people might be interested. Feel free to ignore my comments in the parentheses xD

Onobu - Horikita Maki (not sure how to feel about this, lol ;^^)
Matsushima - Tamaki Hiroshi　(Yay, I love him~!)
Tsuruoka -　Okura Tadayoshi (Kanjani8~~!)
Sugishita - Abe Sadao (Also not sure how I feel about this casting, simply based on how the character looks in the manga, but he is a good actor so I think it will be good)

If anyone would like to see the comments by each actor, I could also translate those for you guys. Just let me know :D
They were all pretty short and I had time, so I just went ahead and translated them...


Horikita Maki
The setting of this movie is very interesting and something that no one has ever thought of, so I'm very excited to have been chosen for this role.
Also, I am incredibly happy to be able to act together with Ninomiya-san, who I respect very much as an actor.
I am looking forward to seeing just how gorgeous an all-male Ohoku will be. (*note: She doesn't mean how gorgeous the guys will be, but in general all the pomp and flashiness)
My character sends off the one she loves into the Ohoku, but I hope you will look forward to seeing what will happen to the love between these two childhood friends who cannot show their true feelings.


Tamaki Hiroshi
The original manga comes from such a fresh angle, that when I started reading it I was immediately pulled into the world it portrays.
The characters were born in a harsh time, and within that world they strive to live in their own ways...
Though this story is fiction, I felt I was able to empathize with the feelings of all the characters, including Matsushima, who I will play.
Just as the original story, I hope to be able to play Matsushima in such a way that this work will become one which shows many important things even for the world of today.


Okura Tadayoshi
This is the first time that I will be acting together with Ninomiya-san, so I am looking forward to it very much.
I hope to be able to learn a lot from him on the set.
I will try my best to be able to make my own impression among such an incredible cast.


Abe Sadao
Sugishita is really cool! (*note: I agree, hehe xD)
I am very happy that I will be able to take on the challenge of this role, and I am very grateful.
I will do my best to look like I'm really in the Edo era.

Yeah, Tamaki Hiroshi is one of my favorite actors, so I'm excited about that role.

Actually, I like Maki well enough, but... she just doesn't seem right for the role to me. (And I don't approve of her having a kiss scene with Nino, lol ;^^) Well, her character is only in the beginning and the end of the movie though, so even if you hate her it might not ruin it for you ;^^ Unless you just can't stand her being Nino's love interest, hehe.

Haha, hmm, Abe Tsuyoshi would be good too, hehe. But the character Sugishita is supposed to be a bit older (I think he was 35?) so, Abe Sadao makes more sense. I think he will do a good job.

And I'm still trying to decide how I feel about Maki being Onobu... I was hoping for someone that I'd be like "Yay~!" about, since I was really looking forward to the kiss scene from the manga.

The story for this movie is a manga written by Yoshinaga Fumi. The movie will be the first volume of this manga, since it is the only volume where Nino's character, Yuunoshin, appears.
I'm not sure where you can read it online, or if anyone has translated it into English or not though. I bought it right after they announced Nino would be in the movie, hehe xD Here's the offical site of the manga...

freaking AWESOMESAUCE. *shrugs* there's always going to be haters, and you can go back and forth about why this actor is better for this role or why your prefer A to B and so on, but I guess it's never crossed people's minds that actors get picked because of their reputation w/in the industry/low drama level offscreen and previous working relationships with the actors involved. Even if Maki was only in one dramatic production a year, because of her CM work, there'll always be the "OHNOESSHESSOOVERRATED/MEH/DNW/OVEREXPOSURE" greek chorus of disagreement.

I find it even more annoying when people think picking Maki's best friend Meisa and putting her in the roles that Maki gets is somehow a "better" alternative. Uh, wouldn't that just mean that Meisa would also fall in the overexposed category? I'm sorry, I guess I just don't get fandom logic - oh wait.....HI BIAS.

My bottom line is I guess I freaking love overrated actresses. And Arashi like Maki. It's so hard to be liked by one of Japan's top acts, you know.

Actually, I like Maki. I don't know why everyone seems to think I'm a Maki-hater just 'cause I wasn't excited about her in this role, lol. I've read the manga and just can't really picture her in that role, so that's why I said I wasn't sure what to think about it. I'm giving the casting director the benefit of the doubt though.

And if they had chosen Meisa I would have said the same thing. She wouldn't fit the role at all. I'm not saying I've got a better choice for the role or anything, just that I didn't jump out of my chair with excitement when I read it would be Maki.

By no means am I a hater, but strictly visually, her as Onobu and Nino's Mizuno doesn't... mesh? Between Sho and Nino, she looks better with Sho. And in my mind, Maki and Nino's levels of acting are different and that has a possibility to show.
