曇りのち、快晴 - Kumori nochi, Kaisei
"Passing Clouds, Blue Skies to Follow"
DAN DAN DANG! 目の前を通り過ぎるだけの日を
DAN DAN DANG! 変えていけ 想像の「今」へ
DAN DAN DANG! me no mae wo toorisugiru dake no hi wo
DAN DAN DANG! kaeteike souzou no [ima] he
DAN DAN DANG! Take the day that's just passing before your eyes, and...
DAN DAN DANG! Go change it to the dream that's "Now" in your mind...
疲れた体 引きずりながら 今日もいつもの帰り道
あの日誰かが 言ってた言葉 今も信じてはいるけど
tsukareta karada hikizuri nagara kyou mo itsumo no kaerimichi
ano hi dareka ga itteta kotoba ima mo shinjite ha iru kedo
While you're dragging right along that tired bag of bones,
It's the same old homeward road again today...
Though the words that someone said once upon some distant day
Even to this moment still are ringing true...
「こんな筈じゃない」 逃げた心を
もう一度 あの日の 希望の色で満たしてよ
[konna hazu ja nai] nigeta kokoro wo
mou ichido ano hi no kibou no iro de mitashite yo
Let the heart that ran away, saying "That just can't be so!"
Once again fill to the brim with the color of the hope that it had back then!
踏みならせ!
DAN DAN DANG! 目の前を通り過ぎるだけの日を
DAN DAN DANG! 変えていけ 想像の「今」へ
そう一歩踏み出せたなら景色も変わる
LAN LAN LANG! 幸せはきっと僕の手の中に
fuminarase!
DAN DAN DANG! me no mae no toorisugiru dake no hi wo
DAN DAN DANG! kaeteike souzou no [ima] he
sou ippo fumidasetanara keshiki mo kawaru
LAN LAN LANG! shiawase ha kitto boku no te no naka ni
Now, stomp your feet!
DAN DAN DANG! Take the day that's just passing before your eyes, and...
DAN DAN DANG! Go change it to the dream that's "Now" in your mind.
Oh, if you take just a single step out, then the scenery will change around you.
LAN LAN LANG! Happiness is in my own hands, for sure!
いろんな人が いろんなことを 僕に問いかけてくるけど
正しいことも 間違ったことも きっと自分だけのもので
ironna hito ga ironna koto wo boku ni toikaketekuru kedo
tadashii koto mo machigatta koto mo kitto jibun dake no mono de
All kinds of people have all kinds of things that
They come find me to ask about,
But saying what is right and saying what is wrong
Are things that must belong to you alone.
諦める事 慣れた心に
いつだって 揺るがない 希望の音を鳴らしてよ
akirameru koto nareta kokoro ni
itsudatte yuru ga nai kibou no oto wo narashite yo
Let the heart that's grown too used to giving up its dreams
From now on ring out loud with the sound of hope, unwavering!
手をたたけ!
PAN PAN PANG! 今はまだ後悔だらけの日々も
PAN PAN PANG! 越えていく 不器用なままで
そう明日は今日と違う風が吹くだろう
LAN LAN LANG! 何もかもきっと僕の手の中に
te wo tatake!
PAN PAN PANG! ima ha mada koukai darake no hibi mo
PAN PAN PANG! koeteiku bukiyouna mama de
sou ashita ha kyou to chigau kaze ga fuku darou
LAN LAN LANG! nanimo kamo kitto boku no te no naka ni
Just clap your hands!
PAN PAN PANG! Now, take the days still filled with regret, and...
PAN PAN PANG! Jump past 'em, clumsy as you think you might be.
Oh, the wind that's gonna blow tomorrow is different from the one today.
LAN LAN LANG! Any and everything is in my own hands, for sure!
繰り返してくHistory そのどこかでRide on time
広がってる 明日に向かってDAN DAN DANG!
kurikaeshiteku History sono dokoka de Ride on time
hirogatteru asu ni mukatte DAN DAN DANG!
When history keeps repeating, where it puts you down, just ride on time.
With your eyes on tomorrow as it spreads out wide... DAN DAN DANG!

TRANSLATION NOTES
*****************************************
This was a fun one, both in the sense of being enjoyable and in the sense of being interesting.
Starting with the title... I must have gone through fifteen or twenty different versions before I found a translation I liked. Then, I went to Japanese class. Sensei asked about the weather, and I thought I'd trying saying "今日は快晴です [kyou ha kaisei desu]," thinking that the usage examples I'd seen in the dictionary would certainly apply to the relevant weather conditions. However, the response "Do you actually know what that means?" was not terribly encouraging. Turns out, the word is not applicable to generally good and sunny weather as the dictionary implied but rather is only used specifically for days when there's not even the least hint of a cloud in the sky. This caused me to go back and make minor revisions to the translation of the title. What was "sunny" became "clear"... and then when I didn't like the combination of consonants, finally I settled on "blue". With a little widgeting for the cadence change, you get the final result. The "Passing" and "To Follow" are both related to the translation of "のち [nochi]", trying to de-emphasize cloudiness as something giving way to better weather.
The only other big stumbling block was where the lyricist gives the injunction to "Ride on time". It's my standard operating procedure to try to bring any lyrics written in English (or any non-Japanese language) into the translation unchanged, so I wasn't planning to change the lyrics qua the words at this point; but fitting those words in with everything else still meant that I had to figure out exactly what I thought he was trying to say.
The full line is "繰り返してく History, そのどこかで Ride on time [Kurikaeshiteku History, sono dokoka de Ride on time]". The primary action is the suggestion to "Ride on time", as previously discussed. The place where this occurs is "somewhere/anywhere", that specifically unspecified location is linked to "History" (by "その [sono]" - so it's a link where the location is proper to history, which I decided must mean 'determined by history'), and history is described as something that is looping back on itself. The image that I settled on in my own head was something like a beach, with the waves crashing onto the shore and rolling back. The speaker, then, might be telling the audience to be like the man with the surfboard, riding on the waves... Though I've never actually surfed myself, so I can't take the metaphor any further.
Naturally, there was no such beach imagery in the Japanese, so I didn't insert any into the translation. I just used the concept of rising up to a kind of motion that is more particular to oneself and less dominated by other forces to determine how to make the line work as a whole.
[By the way, if you want to say that you have generally nice weather, I recommend "晴れ [hare]". Related term, less specific.]
