fangirls in new zealand
Feb. 23rd, 2009 11:50 amI was just wondering if anyone else here is going to be affected by Section 92 of the Copyright Amendment Act that may take into effect in New Zealand in March.
Section 92 of the Copyright Amendment Act assumes Guilt Upon Accusation and forces the termination of internet connections and websites without evidence, without a fair trial, and without punishment for any false accusations of copyright infringement. We should speak out against injustices like Guilt Upon Accusation being done in the name of artists and protecting creativity.
For those who are interested here's the site that explains more about Section 92. creativefreedom.org.nz/goals.html

I'm not an artist or anything, I just want to be able to access and download videos of Arashi and the j-dramas I watch. My friend told me last week that a close friend of hers has already had his internet disconnected for minor downloading.
This sucks ass.
I'm really sorry for using this comm for this post, if it's not allowed. I just want to know if there are others affected and what they think of it/going to do about it.

Well. I've signed the petition and I'm gonna spread the word. I'd be devastated if this was actually put into action. Roughly 16k signatures so far. I wonder if that's enough to sway them

Date: 2009-02-23 02:01 am (UTC)i admire how they wanted to protect 'creativity', which is easily stolen by people who are money/fame oriented and have no respect for others, and the 'artists' (especially celebrities), who are abused and disrespected by people thinking that they are well-paid because they are public property (people who are in the lime-light); thus, these 'artist' should expect 'no privacy'.
nonetheless, i also believe that if an artist is really an artist, his desire is to share his work to everyone, even at no cost. For those who are enjoying the creativity of the artists, the least that they can do are the following: not to vandalize it and to give proper citations.
it's possible, though, that at least two people are thinking of the same thing and both can claim their ownership on the idea.
i'm pretty sure that many artists have became well known because of the internet through youtube and such...(i wouldn't know and be familiar with korean and japanese culture if not for the net)
based on japanese drama that i've seen, many japanese record the shows with their vcr (probably because they are still out during those times)...with that doesn't that raise many issues on property rights?
sometimes, i wonder, if the so call property rights that they are saying is to protect the artist and their creativity or is it to protect their earnings (e.g. high ratings mean more income from commercials)...
regarding the idea of 'without evidence or without a fair trial', isn't that a violation of human rights?
(*^^) long rant eh...nonetheless, i feel for you...

Date: 2009-02-23 03:11 am (UTC)Quite honestly I've seen half-baked attempts to curb illegal downloading before (Comcast's severe throttling of Bittorrent communications) but this takes the cake for most backward, ignorant legislation ever passed.
Perhaps you should begin using TOR in protest of this unfair legislation?
