If I'm not mistaken, most Malaysian dvd players are region 1. Usually can't play region 2 dvds. There are region free players though, but I'm not sure where you could get one. I've been trying to find one myself.

There are technical tweaks you can do, but as it is - I don't think Malaysia supports region 2, so your DVD player will not be able to play the DVD. Although you can watch it on your computer using VLC player.
Anyways have a look at your player, and I think there was some forum online about calling the manufacturer for a code to play DVDs from other regions.

No you don't need to change anything because if you played your DVD changing the region on your laptop it will stop after the 5th time, i.e. You won't be able to watch anything from other regions after the 5th time.
VLC is region free so you can watch any DVD as many times as you want. I suggest you look up VLC and download it.

i'm from Malaysia too and i played truth DVD (region 2) using the DVD player. it works!

alternatively, u can use your laptop or computer to watch it. if the cd drive can't read the DVD, u can change the regional setting. but it's limited to only 5 changes

I use my laptop to play region two DVDs. I might ask you if you want to change the DVD player in your computer to play region 2 DVDs but other than that - your laptop should be able to play them.

It can be played by normal DVD... Especially if the brands is from Japan... I've tried it on my uncle Hitachi DVD palyer and it works perfectly... So you don't have to worry too much... ^____~

Most computer DVD players will only let you change the region setting 5 times before it "locks". If you want to be able to play any region whenever you like, download VLC player and play your DVDs through that. VLC player will play ANY region DVD, regardless of what setting your DVD drive is set on.
