Quick Question!

Okay. So I just got my hands on a copy of PIKANCHI life is hard dakedo happy. The only problem is, it has no subtitles. My Japanese is marginal at best, but it would help so much if someone could just give a quick summary of what the movie is even about. Like, the main plot idea...or a bit about each member's character in the film.

Basically the story is about 5 teenagers who are about to graduate highschool and they decide to do something adventurous. Shun (Aiba) falls in love with a pretty girl and decides to get into one of the best universities to please her or something, but in the end they discover she's not the nice person he thought she was.

In the second movie, we get to see how they turned out as adults. Some building is going to be destroyed and replaced by a huge commercial center and they get involved in this conspiracy involving ecologists who want to save the old building. That's what I understood, anyways. ^^;

Bon (Jun) is vietnamese. His father is a cook and he wants to take over the family business when he's skilled enough so he's training.

Chu (Sho) is a Yankee, um... not much to say about him.

Takuma (Nino) has discovered himself a new passion for skateboard. But his parents are having money problems and can't pay the bills or something, his mother leaves and his father kills himself a while after.

Haru (Ohno) is obsessed by women and gets easily manipulated. He falls in love with a woman much older than him.

I think it's something like yakazu or yakuzu rather than Yankee. He's a gang leader. Yankee means 'american'.

Do you have the dvd or just the movie....cuz I think the dvd has japanese subs, which could probably be easily translated to english ~_^

i dunno about the first movie but the 2nd movie (i watched it on the airplane and it had eng. subs yayyy)

um basically Takuma (nino) comes back from USA after 3 years, the other guys durignthe 3 years have been saving takuma's apartment for him waiting for him to come back, scaring off all the people that want to live in that place. Bon (Jun) couldn't "keep waiting for someone who may never return" so he left to pursue his dream to become a chef. this makes Haru (ohno) angry because they were apart of a group called "Yashio Peace" it consists of a bunch of the towns people who want to save Yashio fro mthe city who wants to destroy it.

the leader of Yashio Peace is a lady (but really she is evil and is only an actress payed by the evil government guy), Chu (sho) is a salesman and has a kid, Shun (Aiba) got accepted to Aoyama Academy (knitting school?) cus he fail his college entrance exams, he just signed up for that, but then he got really good at it and now he only wears what he knits! (lol)

Sho leaves Yashio Peace since it may ruin his chance of getting promoted cus he wants to support his family better, which makes Ohno's character very angry cus he leaves Yashio Peace.

Haru is promoted by the evil lady and decides leaves his job at supermarket. he says to aiba "to tell you the truth...this is the first time i've ever felt wanted" (aww depressing ne?)

on the boat, Sho has to entertain clients with his coworkers, they are lal acting crazy and wild while sho stands there not knowing what to do and has a flashback *to the first movie*
his younger self saves about the people in the boat (just like him right now) "I swear i will never become like them" his co worker tell him to stop standing around and to think of his promotion! and to tie his tie around his head, nino aiba and ohno who are on the bridge..see this and stand in shock, i imagine they felt betrayed. and Sho saw them as he was drinkign the alcohol, you can tell he felt liek shit, he pauses, looks at them and then pretends they're not there and continues to drink the whole bottle

Haru (ohno) gets consumed by the cause and the evil lady. Aiba and Nino see this and tell him that they decided enough is enough, though Takuma is thankful that they try to save his place, the matter has gotten too far. they also tell ohno to go back to his super market job. ohno says something like "Shut Up! that's bullshit! Next you'll be preaching to me about how the world really is! ...and using your tie as headbands!...just don't decide to move on.....i can't keep up anymore"
(*cries* totally sad, i think ohno's character felt liek he was stuck in the past and the otherguys moving on without him)

so basically the group is broken up, and aiba and nino have feelings the evil lady is infact the bad guy, oh jun also knows she is bad guy and tries to warn them. so jun nino and aiba try to save yashio, haru..and themselves.

ah i guess you pretty much can guess what happens in the end ne?

I watched the 2nd movie last night (haven't seen the first one yet...) without English subs but am really proud cos managed to understand a fair bit to get an idea of what was going on. Thank you for posting this though, the movie's so much cooler now i know the actual details! Bless to Ohno's character, i felt so sorry for him! He was really trying so hard to stand up for himself and prove himself to his friends...
Righty...now to watch the 1st movie!

I think i understood most of it cause the movie is really visual. I could actually learn to understand japanese this way if they were all so visual as this movie was.. lol

Yay, that's what we needed!! Now I'm gonna go back and re-watch this so I can have a better feel for it, too. Woohoo! Comprehension is key! LOL!
