I've been wondering this for awhile and didn't know who to ask so I decided to post it here
Sho's surname was supposed to be spelled 桜井 in the beginning, but changes to 櫻井 in 2002
I know that both have the same reading 'sakurai' and same meaning, but is there a reason why he changed the spelling?
his father's surname is still spelled as 桜井, only Sho's changed

as far as im concerned... 桜 is just a simple version of 櫻

well there is only a slight difference between readings but yeah... i'd say they're the same kanji.

Basically 桜井 is the Japanese kanji and 櫻井 is the traditional Chinese kanji. They're pretty much interchangeable, but has the exact same meaning. It's like traditional and simplified Chinese.
